January 15, 2018 – JustFoodForDogs, LLC of Los Alamitos, CA has announced in a company letter to customers that they are voluntarily recalling specific JustFoodForDogs products due to a potential contamination with bacteria ‘Listeria monocytogenes’.

The preliminary testing revealed that an ingredient used to make the products, human-grade green beans, may have been contaminated with the bacteria.

Company:  JustFoodForDogs LLC of Los Alamitos, CA

Recalled products:

Only the following products are affected by this recall till today:

JustFoodForDogs Turducken
with Batch dates 11 01 18 to 12 31 18

Fish and Sweet Potato
with Batch dates 11 01 18 to 01 14 19

* New packages are being manufactured right now which contain no green beans and are safe to feed your pets.

Why recalled? The products were recalled due to the potential contamination of bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

Notes:

  • This is a voluntary recall and is the first recall ever in the history of this company.
  • After a customer reported that ‘Turducken’ caused her dog to be sick with vomiting and diarrhea, the company initiated their investigation and found that the ‘human-grade green bean supply’ was contaminated with Listeria.
  • Shawn Buckley, the Founder said that the company is also “notifying the FDA as this may likely affect a broader human food supply of green beans.”

What to do?

  • If you are still feeding your pets the affected product, you should stop and monitor your pet’s health.
  • If you have any concerns or if your pet is showing the signs/symptoms of listeria, as mentioned further down in this article, you should contact a veterinarian immediately.
  • Upon request, JustFoodForDogs will provide an immediate, unconditional credit to your account for all purchases that consist of ‘these recalled recipes’ which are between the dates of November 1, 2017 and January 14, 2018.
  • Or you can dispose the products in a safe manner, in a trash with a lid, so no other animals can get to it.
  • If you have purchased JustFoodForDogs products and have any questions, you are asked to email the company at support@justfoodfordogs.com
  • U.S. citizens can report complaints about FDA-regulated pet food products by calling the consumer complaint coordinator in your area.
  • Or go to https://www.fda.gov/petfoodcomplaints.
  • Canadians can report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

About Listeria monocytogenes:

  • Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
  • Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
  • Healthy cats and dogs rarely become sick from Listeria. If animals get ill with Listeria they will display symptoms similar to the ones listed above for humans.
  • People who have concerns about whether their pet has Listeria should contact a veterinarian.
