Stella and Chewy’s is voluntarily recalling four of its products sold in the U.S. and Canada due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can affect animals eating the contaminated products and humans are also at risk after handling the products, especially if you don’t wash your hands thoroughly with soap afterwards.

This Stella and Chewy’s voluntary recall includes the following selected products from Lot # 165-15:
The following products have not tested positive but are also recalled since they may have come in contact with the contaminated products:
Why recalled? positive test confirming Listeria monocytogenes.
Notes:
- So far this recall affects 964 cases in the U.S. and 26 cases in Canada, totaling to 990 cases.
- This recall was initiated after a routine surveillance testing by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
- The bacteria was found in Stella’s Super Beef Dinner Morsels for Dogs 8.5 oz. frozen bags, lot #165-15, “Use by 6-25-2016” during the test.
What to do?
- If you have purchased the product, you are advised to look at the “Use By” dates, UPCs, lot numbers and product descriptions on each bag and compare them to the tables above.
- Customers should dispose the affected product immediately in trash with a lid so no animals can get to it. You can also return the affected product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

About Listeria monocytogenes:
- Listeria is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
- Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
- Healthy cats and dogs very rarely become sick from Listeria. Animals ill with Listeria will display symptoms similar to the ones listed above for humans.
- People who have concerns about whether their pet has Listeria should contact their veterinarian.
