7 Super Easy DIY Last-Minute Halloween Pet Costumes

Need a quick, easy costume idea that won't annoy your pet? Any of these will do!

3. The Dye Job

It’s easy to give your dog a quick dye job at home to accompany any costume. A pink Lab looks just like the Victoria’s Secret mascot, while a red Great Dane will remind kids of Clifford the Big Red Dog. If you’re extra crafty, you can use multiple colors to create the popular movie, game and TV characters like Pikachu or a Smurf.

To make a dog-safe dye, mix a sugarless Kool-Aid packet with a small amount of water or dog conditioner. You can also use food coloring. Apply dye to desired areas with an old toothbrush, and let the dye dry on your dog for at least 5 minutes. Then, rinse. Make sure your dog is completely dry before you allow them to run around the house because the dye can stain furniture and carpets.

The coloring usually fades within a few weeks or after a couple of baths. If your dog is prone to skin allergies or is otherwise of ill health, you might want to avoid dying them.
