Boulder Dog Food Company Recalls Turkey Sprinkles

Boulder Dog Food Company, L.L.C. is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of its Turkey Sprinkles food enhancer because it has the potential of being contaminated with Salmonella. This is an expansion of the 3 oz. Chicken Sprinkles recall issued on June 19 by the same company.

  • All Natural Turkey Sprinkles.

Recalled products:

  • 3-ounce bags of Turkey Sprinkles Food Enhancer with a “Best By” date of 05/28/2016, Lot #743 and a UPC Code of 899883001224.

Why recalled? possible Salmonella Contamination.

Notes:

  • The affected/recalled product is in a clear poly bag and is limited to the 3-ounce bags of Turkey Sprinkles Food Enhancer.
  • The UPC Code is located in the lower right hand corner of the product label, on the front of the bag and the “Best By” date and Lot Number are on the back center of the bag.
  • The recalled product consists of 7 bags that were distributed to one retail customer in Colorado and another retail customer in Virginia. The company claims it has identified and notified the customers to whom the recalled product was sent.
  • A routine sampling program by the Food and Drug Administration revealed a “positive” test for Salmonella resulting in this recall. It is also known that one complaint was received from a consumer who had contact with the product.

What to do?

  • The company recommends that you discontinue using the recalled product immediately.
  • The unused product can be either taken back to the retailer where it was purchased or directly to Boulder Dog Food Company.
  • If you have any questions you may contact Boulder Dog Food Company, at 303-449-2540 Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM MT.
  • If you are a U.S. citizen, you can report complaints about FDA-regulated pet food products by calling the consumer complaint coordinator in your area. Or you can also go to http://www.fda.gov/petfoodcomplaints.
  • Canadians can report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

About Salmonella Bacteria:

  • Salmonella can affect animals eating the products.
  • There is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
  • Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
  • Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.
  • Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers immediately.
  • Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.
  • Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.
  • Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
  • If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
