March 3, 2018 – Steve’s Real Food is voluntarily recalling one lot of 5lb Raw Frozen Dog Food Turkey Canine Recipe due to possible Salmonella contamination.
Salmonella can affect animals eating the contaminated products and humans are also at risk when handling the products, especially if you don’t wash your hands thoroughly with soap afterward.

Recalled products:
- 5lb. Frozen Turkey Nuggets, made by Steve’s Real Food with the UPC code 6-91730-15303-8, Lot # E 178 and the best by date of 9/27/18.
Notes:
- So far, there has been no report of illnesses related to this recall.
- Fifty-two cases of this product were distributed between 6/27/17 – 7/15/17.
- The affected products were distributed to retail pet food stores in states of CA, CO, CT, IA, KS, FL, MD, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, NJ, NV, NY, OR, PA, TX, UT, VA, and WA.
- This voluntary recall was initiated by the company when they were notified by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture after a retail sample was collected and tested positive for Salmonella.
- If you have purchased the recalled product, check the lot code to see if it matches. If it does, stop feeding it to your pets.
- Consumers should follow the safe handling tips published on Steve’s Real Food packaging when disposing of the affected product.
- Any product with the above mentioned ‘Lot Code’ should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

About Salmonella Bacteria:
- Salmonella can affect animals eating the products.
- There is a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
- Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
- Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.
- Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers immediately.
- Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.
- Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain.
- Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
- If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
